Vet Visit was AMAZINGThe vet had amazing things to say about the Hop Litter One (see blog post). HOWEVER, there was one issue that the vet found in a few pups, though we observed in others as well: REDUCIBLE HERNIA. This is a resolvable issue and for more reading please visit this article. It is a condition where the umbilical ring (hole in the abdomen) doesn't close all the way after birth. It is painless for the puppy while they are under 6 months old because there is only a fatty deposit that protrudes or recedes into the hole. However, as the puppy matures the fat dissolves and it is possible, if the hole hasn't resolved/healed on it's own, the intestines could protrude which causes pain and is dangerous and is considered a medical emergency at that point. If spaying or neutering is in the plan, then the fixing of the hernia happens at the same time because the puppy is already under anesthesia. If spaying or neutering by 6 months is not in the plan, then the hernia will have to be fixed by the vet by 6 months. What's Up With the Litter's Names Anyway?Hallertau is a hop grown in Hallertau, Germany and used in brewing beer. We chose to give the puppies of this litter litter-names based on various hops. Sauvin is loving and easy to train. She will snuggle just as easily as rough house with her litter-mates. She is an amazing traveler! Sauvin is pretty in her pink collar in earlier pictures and videos. Now we tell her apart by her lighter, soul searching eyes and average length of ear.
Sauvin does have a reducible hernia. Please see this article for information. Sold
